The CD is released by Toccata Classics.<br \/>\nThe <em>Danse macabre<\/em> \u2013 the idea that Death comes for everyone regardless of status or importance \u2013 has fascinated musicians for centuries. In 2011, inspired by a vast sixteenth-century painting by Bernd Notke in the Niguliste, St\u00a0Nicholas&#8217; Church in Tallinn, the English composer Gregory Rose (b. 1948) set the mediaeval German texts which sit below each panel, turning Notke\u2019s terrifying vision into a bleak but grimly humorous ritual.<\/p>\n<p>Gregory Rose\u2019s <em>Danse macabre <\/em>(Death of Dance) for soloists, chorus and instruments was commissioned by the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir to whom <em>Danse macabre<\/em> is dedicated.
