Estonian conductor T\u00f5nu Kaljuste has won a Grammy Award in the Best Choral Performance category for his work on composer Arvo P\u00e4rt\u2019s album \u201cAdam\u2019s Lament\u201d at the 56th Annual Grammy\u00a0Awards in Los Angeles.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAdam\u2019s Lament\u201d\u00a0was recorded with the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir, the Sinfonietta Riga, the Tallinn Chamber Orchestra, the Latvian Radio Choir and the Vox Clamantis ensemble.<\/span><\/p>\n

It was recorded with P\u00e4rt\u2019s active participation in the resonant 13th-century church of St. Nicholas in Tallinn, that surrounds the singing with a hazy echo. The album conveys a feeling of partaking of ancient religious rites in a sacred space.<\/span><\/p>\n

In January 2013, the BBC chose \u201cAdam\u2019s Lament\u201d as its\u00a0recording of the month.\u00a0At the beginning of January 2014,\u00a0P\u00e4rt was given the title of the \u201cworld\u2019s most performed living composer\u201d for the third year running\u00a0by the classical music event database, bachtrack.com.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAdam\u2019s Lament\u201d was also nominated in the Best Contemporary Classical Composition category.<\/span><\/p>\n

The 56th annual\u00a0Grammy\u00a0Awards was held on 26 January 2014 in Los Angeles, USA.<\/span><\/p>\n

T\u00f5nu Kaljuste is the founder of the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir (1981) and the choir\u2019s Honorary Conductor.<\/span><\/p>\n
